Impressions From a Mixer

Talking liquidly
a ghost bumps my shoulder
and a bit of my heart spills onto my blouse
—damn, that’ll stain.

Where to wander in a room
full of women with no last names
and men with two first?
Who to talk to when every stranger
is a card away from being a friend?
What to do when you don’t know
how to naturally mix at a Kaizen event?

Ladies and gentlemen,
thank you, this evening,
for participating, tonight, in this
opportunity, post-workday, for
outwardly mobile social dialogue.

Sharply narrowed,
tautly curved,
crisply pressed,
rattlesnake printed,
diamond-studded
—what’s the point?

Not sure which is the more deadly: crisp press or rattlesnake print....

Not complaining, just curious: have the Unkindness boyz flown the coop?

I look forward to every little new expression you give me. You change me with the expression you give to the words. Thank you.

I do like this, and your question has no easy answer...but my instant first thought to come to mind was community, and then appearances.

Murat: My two friends do seem to have gone off to one of the other worlds. I’m not complaining either, but I also kind of hope they come back. I promise to let you know if there are any raven sightings. Oh, and crisply pressed, every time.

DJan: The way you talk – it will go to my head! Thanks for visiting.

JS: It’s the way the community had chosen to form itself that I found so interesting. Is it just me, or is it easier to know someone in a t-shirt and jeans? But that might be another poem…

lol - it's easier to know someone in a t-shirt and jeans, as long as the jeans and t-shirt are weathered...no $60 tees and $100 jeans please.Let me meet you where your weathered hands are :-)

Well-worn concert tees preferred! :-d
