Type A Love

I haven’t forgotten about you,
I’ve just pushed you aside
onto list three, item four
before flossing
but after buy bread.
So you see, you’re not neglected
just prioritized
in a life carefully boxed
on well-dusted shelves.
So, clearly, there’s no need
for your emotions to get messy.

Dickinson / Berryman, which, of course, is just shy of insulting: who the hell wants to be derivative, when this poem is, indeed, pure alt? The D/B mention is just by way of saying your parents raised you well. This poem rocks: archival fussiness and a killer end-line.

I was out and about in the city's bibliotecas this morning: picked up Berryman's Collected (which, oddly, are not Collected, since the Dreams are not included), and then came home to this. Cool conjunctions.

I've been visiting Berryman's Dreams online since one of your past references - heady stuff to be compared to. Or I'm heady after being compared to it. Or comparing heads leads to stuff.

Thanks for your comment about the last line; it and I did not get along for a while so it's nice to have another's perspective.
