indomitable woman
fourteen and talking to God
your shield: cloth
your weapon: voice
your citadel: the linked arms of the women around you
the indomitable women
marching into their daily war,
their afternoon battle,
their nightly siege
their ever encounter
your steady stance
of heart-born knowledge:
that wasn’t all you were going to be

whoa, this is a really powerful and bueatiful poem.
Thanks JS. It was written hastily after a very powerful and beautiful news story.
I like "their ever encounter..." I thought of Joan of Arc, but I couldn't trace the women with linked arms...
The news article I read was about Afghanistan women protesting a new law that limited their new freedom. Their legal protest was protected by female police officers who linked their arms around them. Such things make me cry for every type of reason. I thought of Joan of Arc as well.
Thanks for the background. It's a beautiful poem. "your shield: cloth" is wonderful.
